Terravista continues sparkling form
10 Mar 2014Trainer Joe Pride has a Gr 1Doncaster Mile start to consider after Super Easy’s half-brother Terravista again showed his class to add the Gr 3 Liverpool City Cup to his CV.
The four-year-old maintained his outstanding strike rate when he knocked off the New Zealand colt El Roca at Warwick Farm for the seventh win of his nine-start career.
Ridden by Jason Collett, Terravista was smartly out of the gates to take up a forward position, but was caught wide when other horses kicked up underneath him.
Collett was unfazed as he kept the horse relaxed and in his rhythm before asking his mount for his customary sprint soon after straightening.
The big chestnut rounded off strongly in the straight to account for El Roca by a long head.
Pride said Terravista will head to the Gr 2 Ajax Stakes in two weeks’ time before a possible Doncaster Handicap start, for which he was allocated 50kg when initial weights were released.
"This blokes a winner, he’s got fantastic acceleration and you saw that again today.
He tends to switch off a bit late, Jason (Collett) keeps telling me to put blinkers on but it’s hard to make gear changes on a winner isn’t it? I think he’s a better horse with cover and a genuine tempo, like to think he gets that at his next start.
"If he’s a serious Doncaster horse he probably has to knock off that Ajax in a couple of weeks’ time.
"50kg is an attractive weight to get in there with but he will probably get a little penalty for today and has probably done enough to get in there.”
