Super Easy’s half-brother Ball Of Muscle continued the family’s record-breaking exploits when he set a new course mark in winning Friday's Listed Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford (pictured right).
The Joe Pride-trained sprinter claimed the biggest win of his career when clocking a time of 1:08.96 for the 1200 metres to break the previous track record set by Our Replica, which was set in 1997.
The heavily supported favourite was expected to lead, as he has done for most of his career, but an early rush for the front saw jockey Glyn Schofield opt for a trail in what proved a winning tactical move.
"I didn’t want him to be there,” Pride said. "He certainly showed some versatility - it was an exciting race. In the end my bloke was just too big and too strong.”
Pride was using the Takeover Target as a guide to the future racing plans for Ball Of Muscle, who now has a record of seven wins and three placings from 10 career starts.
A strong 1200m was always the big query, but after his record-breaking performance, it appears Pride could have another potential Group One sprinter on his hands.
Out of the broodmare gem Parfore, Ball Of Muscle is a brother to the Group One winner Tiger Tees and a half-brother to top-flight winner Terravista.
