Early selling success for Hallmark
26 Jan 2015Hallmark enjoyed a lucrative early double on the opening day of NZB’s National Yearling Sales.
Following on from their Karaka Million success with Hardline, they celebrated two further outstanding results in the ring.
Firstly, Shaune Ritchie outlaid $290,000 for a bay filly by international sire Street Cry from the multiple Group One winning mare Keep The Peace.
It is a family that Ritchie has intimate knowledge of as he prepared the mare throughout her racing career and was taken by the similarities he saw in the filly as he inspected her pre-sale.
“Right from the first time I saw her she reminded me of her mother,” he said.
“I must have inspected her at least six to seven times and on each occasion I never saw her break out of a walk. She never jig-jogged or did anything silly so you can see she has a superb temperament and that is a wonderful asset to have. You could never say she was the prettiest filly but she has a tremendous walk and is very athletic so I’m delighted to secure her.”
Hallmark later topped that sale when their Redoute’s Choice colt realised $300,000 to the bid of Caulfield trainer Mick Price. He is out of a half-sister to the former champion 3YO miler and dual Gr 1 NZ 1000 Guineas Bayer Classic winner Final Destination.
