Karaka investment pays off
02 Mar 2015Hallmark Stud’s Karaka pin hook Lizaz has made the perfect start to his career in Singapore.
The Alamosa three-year-old was successful on debut at Kranji last night for trainer Stephen Gray.
“He’s a nice horse and I’m happy he’s won as he’s been hard work at the barriers,” he said.
“We got him from the trials in New Zealand, but he’s been naughty at his first two trials here. The Alamosas are doing very well and for sure, this guy will get even better over more ground.”
Lizaz was ridden by Corey Brown, who also said the best was yet to come from the gelding.
“He did a few things wrong but he will improve a few lengths from that run. He’s a lovely horse and will come right with more runs under his belt.”
Lizaz was purchased by Hallmark as a weanling at Karaka in 2012 for $32,000 and realised $80,000 when re-offered as a yearling.
He is out of the winning Bigstone mare Graphite, a sister to the Gr 3 Easter Cup winner Paddy O’Reilly.
