Vatuvei victorious at Ballarat
12 Aug 2015Vatuvei has given sterling service to Peter Moody’s stable and last Sunday he further emphasised his versatility.
The Hallmark Stud graduate was a success on the flat with a victory in the Gr 2 Moonee Valley Cup and the Listed VRC St Leger to his credit.
And at Ballarat he added a prestige jumping win to his CV when he triumphed in the JJ Houlahan Hurdle for regular rider Tom Ryan.
Vatuvei has won four of his five races over hurdles, his only blemish when he lost Ryan on debut at Warrnambool.
"I blame myself for that, I was riding him like a good horse instead of just letting him roll along in front and getting his own way,” he said.
"He’s grown an extra leg since, they’ve done a great job with him at home.”
A son of Reset, Vatuvei was bought by Moody for $150,000 out of Hallmark’s 2010 Premier Sale line-up at Karaka.
Out of the stakes winner Boisterous Lady, he is a half-brother to the Gr 1 Australian Oaks winner Rena’s Lady.
