A dour staying effort to win the Group two Waikato Guineas put outsider Sponge Bob right in contention for a tilt at the New Zealand Derby. The lightly raced son of Keeper was only having his fourth start on Saturday, his first at stakes level, having only broken his maiden last time to the races.
The Group two win was the start of a good day for jockey Troy Harris, who went on to also take out the Group One on Melody Belle. His first win at this level for ten years.
Sponge Bob spent a good portion of his early life raised at Hallmark Stud for our lovely clients Chrissie Wilkinson and Craig Gray, we are over the moon for them and look forward to seeing Sponge Bob continue his three year old season!
